Batman was first introduced by Detective Comic in their book number 27. The character the named Batman was created by an artist named Bob Kane and a writer named Bill Finger. Batman was a huge success. Since he instantly became a member of the new crime fighter family, and was so intensely popular, DC comics began to releas the Batman comics as a separate series. The comic book title Batman was issued in 1940. Since then Batman comics have remained a favorite as it has continued to intrigue the imagination of readers world-wide.
The Batman comics have earned this hero a position in the Hall of Fame of fictional superheroes. There have been more than a few instances in which Batman's character has been modified to better fit in with current trends and ideas of the time. An example of this is seen when we examine a sample from the early years of the Batman comics.
Many comic books of during the period between 1939 to 1949 were depicted as pulp fiction. Batman's character from this period was given many of the traits from that time. In order to make the character seem a little bit more realistic, Batman Comics showed Batman fighting his enemies as a vigilante with no super powers. He fought his enemies using only his skills, strength, and intellect.
Unlike almost all other superheroes, Batman was never given special giftings or posession of any kind of super powers. He has always been portrayed as an individual who had a determination to fight crime, and yet still respects the laws of the city of Gotham. In many of the Batman comics Batman is shown as a silent and grim crime fighter who battles his enemies by himself. His primary assets are his intellect and personal will and determination, in addtion to an arsenal of technologically advanced weapons and devices.
To make Batman’s character and personality seem more human and likeable the creators later added additional characters to the Batman comic book series. The most famous supplemental character is Robin. For most of the history of Batman his sidekick Robin is shown fighting alongside of Batman. Although this was not the case with the movie made in the 1980's in which Batman was the solo crime-fighting character on the big screen. However the sequels made to this first edition held true to the timeless Dynamic Duo in subsequent productions about the Dark Knight.
Later additions to the cast of characters in the Batman comics are Batgirl who is shown as the Police Commissioner Gordon’s daughter Barbara, and Batwoman. The host of villains that appear in the Batman comics have also become more than well-known. In fact the names of the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman and even the Joker are names that nearly every houselhold will recognize.
Although many changes over the years have been brought to the Dark Knight, Batman comics are still read by many people, from all backgrounds and all ages. The various Batman movies that we have all seen are a a verifiable testament to the mass appeal of this superhero. Who knows what changes may be in store in the very near future for this crime fighter. Perhaps we will never seen the end of production of Batman Comics.
